For the Central Park Zoo, Marty the actual zebra is celebrating his tenth birthday, but longs to see the rest of the world from outside...

For the Central Park Zoo, Marty the actual zebra is celebrating his tenth birthday, but longs to see the rest of the world from outside his pampered life on the zoo, believing that he will find wide-open spaces to run around in, like Connecticut. Marty's ally, Alex the lion attempts to be able to cheer up his friend by means of singing Frank Sinatra's "New You are able to, New York" with him. Even now unsatisfied, Marty gets some tips through the zoo's penguins; Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private. The penguins are similarly wanting to escape the zoo. Marty's friends—Alex the actual lion, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the actual hippopotamus—realize Marty's folly and try and follow him. The four, combined with the penguins and the chimpanzees Mason and his silent friend Phil eventually experience the at Grand Central Station, but are quickly sedated by means of tranquilizer darts when Alex's try to communicate with humans is incorrectly recognized for aggression. The zoo (under force from animal-rights activists) is required to ship the animals, by means of sea, to a Kenyan wild animals preserve. During their travels, the penguins escape using their company enclosure and take over the actual ship, intent on taking this to Antarctica. Their antics for the bridge cause the crates that contain Alex, Marty, Melmen, and Gloria to fall from the boat and wash ashore on Madagascar.
